Listening to: tv
Well, well... recently I noticed on DA some stamps against something call "tracing", at first I was a little confused about the meaning of that word, this is because in my native language, the word "trazar" is a synonim of "dibujar" (draw) , in this case "trace" is in english the meaning of "calcar",
After that "self-explanation" xD, I also noticed people talking about that vector pictures are the "digital way" of making traces,(in the traditional way, people use resources like lightboxes, windows and directly put a transparent paper on your TV screen xD) this is true in some way, I do it often with the 90% of the Saint Seiya material in my gallery. Yes, you know, I take my favorite picture from any chapter of Saint Seiya The Lost Canvas, I "trace" it in vectors and then I put color. I am aware that is NOT my drawing, and I also know I won´t improve my drawing skills doing this (and nobody xD) but, I my case, I am not intended to improve my drawing skills doing this, for that case I use to draw from reality and from "how to draw books".
I only do these "traces" for fun, and for improve my COLORING skills, ( Do you remember those coloring books in your childhood? ,you were very proud when you get the colors inside the lineart instead of out of the picture xD ) You may also use this coloring tecniques as educational purposes.
A friend of mine one day told me about "selling" the pictures I colored and I said NO, that would only applies if I have the written permission of the author and copyright to do that business.
But, if I color copyright manga/anime pictures and then I want to make money of them, that is a shame.
The coloring skills I have achieved during this "tracing training " XD will let me color my original pictures in a different way.
In my next journal I will be talking about "drawing styles" =3
Finally, what is your opinion about tracing?
P.D. Sorry for my bad english xP
